Asus' CEO Says They're Working On a 3D Tablet, MeeGo and Android Netbooks and WP7 For 2012

Asus has just announced something that sounds pretty darn great. Apparently, the CEO, Jerry Shen, has mentioned that they're working on a few products. They include: a 3D tablet, MeeGo and Android Atom powered netbooks, and even a Windows Phone 7 handset which actually won't hit the market until 2012. Nothing else has been mentioned but it would be surprising for the 3D tablet not to run Android so you can get excited if you don't want the LG G-Slate / Optimus Pad.

Nokia's CTO Mentions That Their First MeeGo Device Is the N950

Nokia's CTO, Rich Green, has just announced what could be something great for the company, the N950. Yes, the Nokia N950 is going to be the first MeeGo handset from the company and if things work out this one will actually hit the market later this year. An actual photo of the handset was nowhere to be found but it might look like the handset you see above - of course, it could also look nothing like it. Specs are unknown right now but this handset is looking like it'll be a dev platform instead of an actual consumer-friendly smartphone. Oh well, at least they now have Windows Phone 7 to fall back on.

Fujitsu Unveils the LifeBook MH330 Again, This Time With MeeGo On Board

If you were waiting for a MeeGo netbook and Nokia shattered those dreams then don't worry because Fujitsu has your back. They have actually just revealed the revitalised LifeBook MH330 netbook and thrown on the OS on there. This MeeGo powered netbook features a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB HDD. The MH330 will be launching soon for $399 but no one knows when that'll be.

Nokia Jumps Off Their "Burning Platform" and They Find the Windows Phone 7 Island

The title and picture above says it all. Nokia's CEO, Stephen Elop, and Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, announced that their companies are going to become partners in the smartphone war. Yes, Nokia is ditching Symbian - and also MeeGo for the most part - in favour for Windows Phone 7. It seems like a weird deal but it was really their only option. Android is way too competitive for them and they'd also need to work on a custom UI which could be tough for them. Going with WP7, all they have to do is make the hardware and slap the OS on there.

We don't know when Nokia phones running this OS will be available but you should still expect some Symbian and MeeGo devices later this year - only a few of them. 2012 will be their big push in the Windows Phone 7 war. 2011 and 2012 will be "transitional years" for Nokia as they try to get themselves back on track. The company is also going to be working on Microsoft and MeeGo tablets, which should be interesting.

Update: The Inquirer has mentioned that Microsoft is going to be updating their OS in March of this year. This should be quite a large update.

Nokia N9-00 MeeGo Smartphone Gets the Axe, Now Working On N9-01

Coming from Reuters is word that Nokia has axed the Nokia N9-00 which is the smartphone you see above that was supposed to be running the MeeGo OS. Of course, with the new CEO saying that they're "standing on a burning platform" things might've changed. Apparently, the company is working on the N9-01 aka the "Lankku" which is going to mainly be a touchscreen device. Whatever it is, the firm is hearing that it should get unveiled in the next week or so - possibly this Friday or maybe next week while MWC is going on.

Nokia's MeeGo-Based Tablet Leaks; Too Little, Too Late

A tablet coming from Nokia has just leaked and it's running the MeeGo OS. This is likely still in prototype form but maybe we'll be seeing it unveiling within the month - during MWC. Specs are unknown right now and it doesn't look like it's sporting a front-facing camera. It looks like a decent first attempt from the company but they definitely have to keep up with the times. They have dual-cameras on their smartphones so they should definitely implement one if they ever release a tablet.

Nokia N9 To Launch Next Month With 1.2GHz Atom CPU and MeeGo?

Nokia is in pretty big trouble when it comes to their global phone market share because Samsung (with the help of Android) and Apple are catching up. Of course, their Symbian market share is dropping as well, because of Android and iOS. They're going to have to do something quite drastic.

Coming from Prosessori is word that the Nokia N9 will be launching with an Intel Atom 1.2GHz CPU and could also be running the MeeGo OS which is much better than any Symbian OS that has been conjured up to this date. Specs are unconfirmed right now but it'll definitely have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard along with a great camera on the back. Let's hope this one gets unveiled around MWC which takes place next month. It could be Nokia's saviour.

MeeGo OS Shown Off On a Tablet, We Want More!

There are two OS's that haven't been quite successful yet but they have the potential. One is HP and Palm's WebOS and the other is MeeGo which Nokia should probably use on more devices. Of course, the next version of MeeGo isn't completely done yet but it's good to see how it's coming along. The demo you see in the video below is being shown off on a tablet and you can see how multitasking is done. I'm dying to see more but this will quench my thirst for now.

Nokia's MeeGo-Based Z500 Tablet Rejected By Carriers Because Of the Price?

I have a sad rumour for you Nokia and MeeGo fans out there. While the iPad is busy being successful, Nokia is still trying to play catch up and we've heard of the Z500 tablet a few times (N800 pictured above). Unfortunately, rumour has it that the carriers may have actually rejected it because of Nokia's suggested prices. This tablet is said to have a 7 / 9-inch touchscreen display along with the MeeGo OS which gives it potential. We'll see if hits the market in some other way, shape, or form though.

Nokia Z500 (MeeGo Tablet) Leaked On the Ovi Store, No Details

The Ovi Store (here) may have just leaked something that people might be looking forward to. The device I'm talking about here is the Nokia Z500, which is already rumoured to be a MeeGo-based tablet - although the Ovi Store says it's a cell phone. This is definitely some good news for consumers and Nokia because they definitely need something to break the US market. This could be it.

Nokia N9's Hardware Is Near-Perfect, MeeGo Needs Some Work Though

The Nokia N9 aka the MacBook Pro clone has just been tested by the infamous Eldar Murtazin. He didn't mention much, but he did say that the hardware is near-perfect. Unfortunately, he can't say the same about the software right now. The N9 will be running on the MeeGo OS so it's definitely far from perfect right now. He mentions that hopefully Nokia will alter the OS before the launch which is said to be sometime in 2011.
