Apple Sues Samsung Over Tablets, Smart Phones

Apple is suing Samsung, alleging the Galaxy line of phones and tablets infringe on a number of the company’s patents and trademarks.

The suit, filed on Friday in U.S. District Court in Northern California, alleges patent and trademark infringement, as well as unfair competition. Apple is seeking injunctions, actual damages and punitive damages, as well as a finding that the alleged infringement was willful

The smartphone industry is filled with patent actions, including an ongoing battle between Apple and Nokia, suits between Microsoft and Motorola, as well as a suit by Oracle against Google. See this, for example.

Motorola XOOM To Hit Telus On April 19th, HP Touchpad This Summer For $499

Two bits of information coming from Mobile Syrup regarding tablets in Canada. First off, the WiFi-only Motorola XOOM which is already available at Best Buy will be hitting Telus on April 19th. Price should be the same, so expect it for $599.99 - that's a 32GB model.

The other tablet is the 9.7-inch HP Touchpad that'll be running webOS 3.0. We already know this one should be launching in the Summer and it's looking like it'll be in June / July and the price tag seems to be $499. Yes, that's lower than the XOOM but I believe that'll be a 16GB model and it only has a front-facing camera. Of course, on the inside the Touchpad packs a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon which is a bit faster than the Tegra 2 in the XOOM. Interesting stuff, for sure!

Motorola XT862 Gets Bluetooth Certificate, Could Be the DROID 3

This one's a rumour right now but the Motorola DROID 3 may have just gotten its Bluetooth certificate. The DROID 3 may or may not be the XT862 so at this point it's just educated guesses going around. The word is coming from Droid-Life who trusts that their tipster is telling them the truth.

At this point, the rumoured specs for the DROID 3 include a qHD display, an improved slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a dual-core (OMAP4) CPU, and the Android OS with the Blur UI.

Motorola DROID X 2 To Be $199, LG Revolution At $249?

According to the image that DroidLife snagged above, two new devices for Verizon have been priced. The Motorola DROID X 2 and the LG Revolution could be available soon for $199.99 and $249.99, respectively, on a 2-year contract. It shouldn't be a surprise that the DROID Incredible 2 will be launching for $199, while the DROID Charge will be priced at $299 which seems a bit high. Unfortunately, release dates are still unknown.

Motorola Testing a 7-Inch "Gingerbread" Tablet That's Rugged?

Motorola looks like they're testing a new tablet that's unfortunately running just Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" if the picture above is anything to go by. Thankfully, the rest of the spec sheet is looking great so hopefully they'll upgrade the OS before the release. This unnamed tablet reportedly features a 7-inch LCD display, a dual-core 1GHz OMAP 4 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, an 8MP rear-facing camera, Bluetooth 2.1 / WiFi a/b/g/n support, and a USB port for good measure.

That's not all though because this one's apparently a rugged tablet and the battery life will be good enough for 5 and a half hours of video streaming. On the rugged side, this tablet will withstand a four foot drop, extreme temperatures / dust, and some water. Who knows when or if this tablet will hit the market.

16GB Motorola XOOM To Launch Soon?

Right now, in North America you can get a 32GB WiFi-only Motorola XOOM for $599 but it looks like a new model is in the works. According to the image above, the company could be looking to ship a 16GB XOOM in the near future and it should be even cheaper than the current model - possibly $499. Verizon's DROID Incredible 2 and DROID X 2 Smile For the Camera Again

Android Central has picked up more photos of the upcoming HTC DROID Incredible 2 and the Motorola DROID X 2 that's headed to Verizon in the near future. The other smartphone that has been caught on camera again is the upcoming DROID X 2 from Motorola. This one's also headed to Verizon, possibly with just Android 2.2 as well. DigiTimes Reports That Motorola Only Producing XOOM Until June, Hinting At Refresh

A new report coming from DigiTimes has just mentioned something that's quite interesting. Apparently, Motorola is only ordering XOOM tablets until June of this year. Now, this doesn't really tell us much but actually does hint that Motorola could have something better up their sleeve for Q3 of this year. They actually could be unveiling the next XOOM in the middle of this year and maybe it'll be running an improved version of the Android tablet OS. Interesting.

Back Of the Motorola DROID X 2 Possibly Leaks, Has Verizon 4G

The picture above might be real but it also might be fake. Phandroid posted the image anyway to show that the upcoming DROID X 2 for Verizon might actually be capable of running on the carrier's 4G (LTE) network. The DROID X 2 actually shouldn't launch for a while so by the time it actually launches it should actually run on the faster network. Unfortunately, the image above might not be the real thing. The DROID X 2 will be an upgrade over the last model - that's for sure.
